If you would like to run for an office on the Junior Simmental Board and are 11 years or older, email Mnjrsimmental@gmail.com by November 14th, 2021 so your name can be put on the pre-printed ballot. Offices include:

  • Vice President - Preside at meetings in absence of the President. Responsible for social media
  • Secretary - Take minutes at all junior meetings
  • Treasurer - Assist with the merchandise auction at State Sale, collect dues at various shows
  • Trustee - Assist with State Sale concession stand, Junior merchandise auction, or other events
*You can place your name on the ballot for more than 1 office.

Annual Dues

$5 is all it takes to join the MN Junior Simmental Association. Please Venmo your dues to @MNJrSimmental In the memo section, include the name of the junior member and their current t-shirt size. Alternatively, please mail your dues to Adrienne Hilbrands. If we RECEIVE your dues by April 30th, 2022 you will receive an MN Jr Simmental Association t-shirt to wear at Junior Nationals!


MN Jr Simmental Show Person of the Year

Minnesota Junior Simmental Show Person of the Year Award will be awarded to the high point exhibitor in Junior Shows throughout this year's show season. To be eligible for this award, which will be presented at a membership, participants must be members of the Minnesota Junior Simmental Association. Junior Memberships need to be paid by the first show for eligibility. Juniors may still join after the first eligible show but that show will not be counted in points. This year the budget has been set to award cash prizes to students with 11+ points receiving $50, and students
with 5-10 points receiving $25. Student's name will be put into a hat and three individuals in each categories
will receive an additional prize. Junior (age 8-14/January); Senior (age 15-21/January). Points will accumulate year to year, and be a factor for awarding educational scholarships to active members, support individuals who want to attend the bi-annual AJSA Leadership Conference, and to support those MJSA members who may earn a position as a national trustee. Bring completed form to the MJSA meeting on November 20th, or submit it to MNJrSimmental@gmail.com no later than November 19th.

Junior members who have leadership experience, such as being an officer within the junior association, are encouraged to apply for the Bronze Merit Award. Applications and two letters of reference are due to Daryl & Marilee Peterson by the end of the day on April 30th, 2022. Please email it to MNJrSimmental@gmail.com.

Dustin Volz Scholarship
Attention College Seniors:

Interested in applying for the Dustin Volz Scholarship of $800? Annually, the Volz family Awards a senior graduating with A four year degree with a scholarship. The senior needs to write an essay titled:  “What experiences have you drawn upon as a Minnesota Jr. Simmental member to prepare you for life after college?”

MJSA CONTINUING EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP

MJSA members who are High School Senior or older can apply for a scholarship to apply to their
education plans after school. This includes a trade school, technical college, university or beyond.
The purpose of the scholarship is to reward active members of the MJSA and support their
continuing education plans. Scholarships will be awarded based on evaluation of the application
which is worth 50 points. Their accumulated participation points will be added to help make the final
award determination. Applicants should also provide proof of enrollment such as a transcript or
acceptance letter.

The scholarship applications will be reviewed by a group of three individuals (not related to the
applicants):
• A junior member 15 years or older
• A senior board member
• Another MSA adult member

The MJSA advisor will provide the activity points and confirm they are accurate. The application will
consist of three essay questions (total word count for all three responses should not exceed 800
words)
• Tell us about your future career plans and the education path you have selected (20
points)
• What have you learned from your involvement in the Simmental association that you will apply
to your life’s work (20 points)
• How can/will you advocate for the beef industry in your future? (10 points)

An individual can only earn the scholarship once, but they can apply for it more than once up until
they are 21. Recipients must be a paid member of MJSA.

There is not a scholarship application. Compile the above information and submit to:
